Charlie Morgan
Hi there. I’m Charlie Morgan from Seattle, WA and thanks for visiting my website. Originally from Oklahoma I moved to Seattle in 1966, just in time to enjoy the musical revolutions that were happening here and around the globe. It was that music that captured my imagination and led to a 50+ year love for rock, blues, folk, jazz and more – all of which I believe have been woven into this record. They have all certainly influenced me in the way I play and craft music.
I started playing trumpet in 4th grade and used that instrument to secure a place in the musical scene after High School and a brief college stint. I am literally the guy who dropped out of college to join a rock and roll band. There came a day when the band I was in (The Time Machine) decided that trumpet was out and another guitar was required to play the songs that were topping the charts. I knew music, how to run the piece-meal PA, how to load the truck, and had a good singing voice, so I bought a Silvertone Les Paul knock off and had “E-D-A-G-C” down in less than three weeks. I kept my gig. (F and Bb came later).
When one band folded, there was always another place to play. But it wasn’t until I discovered the art of music production that I began to pool my interests and grow. Eventually there were opportunities to play studio sessions writing radio jingles, and then one day I moved to the other side of the glass and discovered I could do that! But jingles and bar band gigs weren’t going to be the means to a lasting success --- so I bought a few speaker boxes and amplifiers and suddenly I had a PA company. Small, home-built and funky to say the least – but energized with my enthusiasm and built-in musical intuition I did OK.
By the time I met Gordon Lightfoot I had a good PA package that was working a lot. Gordon and I did a few gigs together until one day I was called to Minneapolis-St. Paul to mix one of two shows in the same venue on the same night … a mix-off! It was the turning point that turned me into a full time PA jockey …. and away from playing my guitar each and every day. That’s been the story ever since --- with playing always pushed back to second or third chair.
Until now. Yes, I still own my sound company and it is a successful entity of its own. But now, I finally have been able to carve out enough time to do this record. I love the music, the hardware and software, the freedom to go where the music wants to go. This is the my first, but it won’t be my last. There are more songs that need to find completion!
I invite you to explore the rest of the website. There are stories, photos and as much history of the bands I have played in as I have been able to find. Many, but not all, of the friends who have helped me along the way are inside those stories and photos. There may even be a photo of you!
Thanks for reading and visiting.
