SEE BAND
This group had several personnel changes and substitutions through its short lived career, but the mainstay and leader of the group was Stevie Adamek. Stevie penned most of the material the band recorded at Sea West studios on Seattle, supported by Freddie Butterworth and yours truly in the first iteration of the band. Steve Boyce joined us to play bass on a number of tracks, as well as Joe Chemay. We had a second drummer, Mike Dumas.
We played a lot of songs about spaceships and women. That was Steve Adamek’s quote at my 60th birthday party. I would say interstellar songs would be more appropriate. Stevie had, and still has, a style of his own that I have been fortunate enough to use on some of the recordings on this record.
Stevie penned a song called Bicycle that was a pop, almost bubblegum tune about a bicycle’s role in bringing lovers together. The rights to that recording were purchased by Sceptre Records, and the tune went to press and was released across the country. Early reports indicated airplay was happening and some stations were featuring the song. At that time, BT Express released a funk/disco record that took off under the Sceptre label. Attention turned to disco and the lights went out for The See Band.
We went on to record some powerful music and Stevie honed his production skills to a fine edge. Some of the songs we recorded could be released today as current music. The band was ahead of its time.
On I'm Tryin To Help You, the sounds at the end are coming from my Les Paul Junior. It had been leaned against the amp when we went out for doughnuts. The MXR Phase Shifter was engaged. That was the sound we heard when we came back from doughnuts - so we rolled tape. A little high pass to remove the hum and Voila!
